I jumped ship when Gnome3 was a pain in the ass to get work on Ubuntu 11.10 (without it crashing constantly).

Went to Arch and haven't been happier. Gnome2 is being phased out in favor of Gnome3 in Arch.

Buy a G2, root/unlock, install Cyanogenmod 7.0 (Gingerbread/2.3), or any one of the other Gingerbread ROMs. You can buy a G2 from here: http://swappa.com/buy/htc-g2-t-mobile - there's currently six listings, from $335 to $410, and all of them are rooted. The phone should work in the UK, too.

I have the same phone, running CM 7.0 (nightly 38), and I love it. I had the original G1 until recently, and it's a night and day difference. I firmly believe the G2 will suit your needs and more.

I like the changes, you don't. It may take more work (one more click, a little more mouse movement), but I like the fact that, to me, moving windows to different workspaces offers better window management than minimizing.

Sounds a lot like an iPhone 4 and the Macbook Air. I work for an authorized Mac sales and service center; our Mac specialist had to use a heat gun to take the screen/glass off on a Macbook Air. Research for the iPhone 4 returns similar needs.

Running Ubuntu 10.10 with a gnome-shell build from the git repository, and I have to say, I love the change. The minimize and maximize functions themselves are not gone; as the summary says, you can still double click the title bar to maximize. If you want to minimize, you can right-click the titlebar, then click minimize, or using ALT+F9.

I think this is a great design change. In Gnome 2.0 and less, like windows, you would minimize windows to make room/less clutter for windows you're actually using at that top. Now, instead of minimizing, a better method is to move it down a screen (right-click, move to workspace down), or zoom out to activity view, drag the screen from one screen to another. I find when I have a lot going on -- multiple browser windows, terminals, ftp client -- I use this a lot. It comes in handy being able to separate each website you're working on, each server, into it's own workspace, free from intrusions and other unrelated stuff.

News like this makes me smile that I decided to use Gentoo Hardened 64-bit nomultilib whenever I built servers. Makes it harder if the software needed to run is only available as 32-bit binaries, but I haven't run into any yet that I've needed.

Since it has no 32-bit emulation layer, this is probably one of the few 64-bit linux not affected (without a patch).

I don't mean to debunk anecdotal evidence with more of the same, but I have a Lexmark z2940 wireless printer here that I just setup to use wireless: downloaded the drivers (running Windows 7), installed them, plugged into the USB cable when prompted to so it could configure the wireless, joined my wireless network with my key, unplugged the USB cable when prompted, then finished the setup. Prints fine using wireless.

Except for the fact that the ink cartridges are either empty or dried up...

People die, life moves on. Detailing her daily life so that you can remember everything will keep you from doing that. Instead, make a log of your important memories with her, and work on making new ones that you and her can cherish for the rest of her life.
