RMS has spent his life fighting for your rights. And when he gets sick all you can do is pile dirt on him? Sure he has some strange views on some things, but in all cases he pushes for greater personal freedom and less corporate ownership of 'ideas' and less government interference in personal lives.

Tape storage capacity is great, and the streaming speed is also great. but the seek times are ridiculous. This is why tape is dead to me. If I want to restore a single 1gb file from a 800gb tape.. it could take a very long time. If i want to restore a single 1gb file from a hard disk it is pretty much instantaneous.

Seems reasonable to me, I would like ot have juridstiction over my own body! I mean seriously, next they'll be telling us we can't consume milk if it doesn't come from a farm that homogenizes the milk.

These patent fights are making me dislike Apple and MS more and more. I have never been huge fans, but for them to make it impossible to get the products I desire so I have no choice but to accept their crap alternatives simply won't work. They can't put the cat back in the bag, and by making it harder to get these devices will only make them more aluring. In short, you will have to pry my android phone from my cold dead hands!

Wind Farms Can Interfere With Doppler Radar 179

T Murphy writes "Wind farms can appear like storms or tornadoes on Doppler radar when placed too close to the radar. Tornado alley is a good area for wind farms, and good terrain for the turbines is also ideal for Doppler radar. With many new farms being constructed, the problem is growing. A false tornado warning was issued in Kansas by a computer, although canceled by a meteorologist aware of the problem — there are fears that false positives will grow. Worse would be a tornado ignored as a wind turbine. While meteorologists are trying to work with wind farm owners to shut off the turbines during bad weather, they have no control over the placement or operation of the turbines. Efforts are being made to improve detection technology to avoid further problems."
