Submission + - Malaysia wants to block file-sharing websites (thestar.com.my)

petman writes: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has instructed Malaysian ISPs to block 10 websites that are alleged to be allowing illegal downloads of copyrighted movies and videos. Considering that these websites are foreign websites that shares videos and movies mostly produced by foreign companies, it is unclear what has prompted MCMC's recent action. It is suspected, though, that the move is intended to protect the revenue stream for Astro, Malaysia's sole satellite television provider, which has recently launched Astro First, supposedly the first-of-its kind movie-on-demand channel in Malaysia.
