Submission + - Commodore Gaming (UK) Unveiled

yoduh writes: "Commodore unveiled their gaming machines this afternoon.

While no pricing is posted it appears that it is just for Europe currently along with their media devices(www.commodoreworld.com).

Their XX model appears to be pretty beefy. I would just to just get my hands on the case!

Submission + - SAS and Fedora (or other free distros)???

yoduh writes: "(Sorry if this is too lame to be an Ask Slashdot post)

This is just a little confusing to me. I completely understand that free linux distro's are just that — free. Also that the people who put time into them do it for free. The Fedora Project is the leading edge for what Red Hat bases its enterprise linux off of, so why can I not find anyone that has successfully installed CentOS or Fedora with an Adaptec or LSI SAS controller. These controllers list SuSE and RHEL drivers.

What I am trying to do is just build a database server using some nice new Opteron(F)'s and a nice RAID setup. But it does me no good to have a $5,600 door stop that will not work with out a $1,500 operating system.

Controllers in question:
Adaptec RAID 4805SAS
LSI MegaRAID SAS 8408E

Now I am sure that some of you may just say to go with a nice SATAII RAID card but I really don't want to downgrade my hardware plans just to get this to work. The point is to build a kick ass database server that will last for quite some time with out upgrades."
