An anonymous reader writes: Michael Robertson seems to have scooped Steve Job by launching a service selling albums of major label music in MP3 format at http://www.anywherecd.com/ . Albums are 9.95+ and all tracks are instantly loaded into a permanent locker without DRM so they can streamed, downloaded and there's a utility which will auto-load directly into iTunes for Mac and Win. blazerw11 writes: "A friend of mine once wanted to be in advertising. He made some really funny ads for a greasy fast food joint, Gene & Jude's of River Grove, IL, that he loves. The ads are quite funny, so I offered to host them on my webserver. That was 7 years ago. They were basically forgotten about except when I occasionally looked at my web statistics and saw that they were the most popular pages on my webserver. As many as 10 people a month would actually view them. Well, today I got a certified letter from a lawyer representing Gene & Jude's claiming I've damaged their company and demanding that I take them down. Now, I can understand their point and if Gene or Jude would have called me and said, "Hey, I don't like those so much, could you take them down?" I would have in a heartbeat. Now that they've called their lawyer, my question is, what can I do at the very least to postpone taking them down or, better yet, keep them up?"

I've been using PyQt4 since last june. The crossed-platform RAD nature of python with qt4 is a godsend. The widgets even look native across Linux, OS X, and Windows.

Unfortunately, the deficiencies of py2app and py2exe mar what could otherwise be one of the simplest ways to develop good cross-platform applications.

hdtv writes "Wired News has published the details of NSA wiretap and revealed former AT&T technician Mark Klein as the main whistleblower, specifically covering the evidence he presented when he came forward." From the article: "In this recently surfaced statement, Klein details his discovery of an alleged surveillance operation in an AT&T office in San Francisco, and offers his interpretation of company documents that he believes support his case. For its part, AT&T is asking a federal judge to keep those documents out of court, and to order the EFF to return them to the company."

From the article: "With Napster's new free service, 'we'll be able to help millions of people get out of the world of 30-second clips and of having to buy individual songs,' Gorog says. 'I don't think there's anything better we could do to turn people onto the pleasures of unlimited, legal access to music.'"

Microsoft May Delay Windows Vista Again 482

UltimaGuy writes to mention a Reuters report, stating that Vista may be delayed again, this time by up to three months. From the article: " The research note, released to clients [by the Gartner Group] on Monday, said the new Windows Vista operating system is too complex to be able to meet Microsoft's targeted November release for volume license customers and January launch for retail consumers. A Microsoft spokeswoman said the company disagreed with the Gartner report and it was still on track to meet its launch dates."

Bill Would Outlaw Digital Receiver Recorders 487

mjdroner writes "ZD-Net has the latest on a sweeping telecom bill in the Senate. The bill provides no support for net neutrality. The bill does, however, include a provision to authorize the FCC to outlaw digital receivers that record broadcasts. The article states that those receivers would be replaced with devices that treat anything with an audio broadcast flag as copy-protected."
