Submission + - Scheduleworld.com exposes subscriber list (onisland.ca)

houseofmore writes: "In an e-mail promoting their new contact sync service, sheduleworld.com mistakenly published over 10,000 of their customers e-mail addresses by admittedly using using the 'CC' field, rather then 'BBC' when sending the e-mail blast. President Mark Swanson responded several hours later with a brief apology saying the problem had been fixed, and wont happen again. How liable are these types of services when they breach their own privacy policies?"

does this not break privacy laws?

I think so! Under my understanding of the UK Data Protection Act (IANAL), this would have to be an opt-in scheme via a tick box on the contract. It used to be opt-out but this was changed.

Under the terms of the law an organization may not share personal data to another party without your consent. It's a pretty decent law, I don't know how the hell it got passed.

Submission + - MediaDefender (MiiVi) Emails Leaked (torrentfreak.com)

redct writes: "TorrentLeak has acquired near 700MB of internal emails from MediaDefender. When TorrentFreak reported that MediaDefender was running the video site MiiVi.com (site dead), MediaDefender said otherwise. But now, take this email gem: "From: Ben Grodsky Looks like the domain transfer has screwed us over: http://torrentfreak.com/anti-piracy-gang-launches-their-own-video-download-site-to-trap-people/ http://digg.com/users/AcePup/news/dugg " Reply? "This is really f*cked. Let's pull miivi offline.""

Submission + - Puzzling Wikipedia edits on wrestler's murder (wikinews.org)

glesga_kiss writes: An interesting article on wikinews points to edits of WWE Wrestler Chris Benoit's page on wikipedia suggesting foreknowledge of the murder. Edits from an IP in Connecticut, later followed by one from a wifi provider in Australia state that he cancelled an engagement due to the death of his wife. These were posted 13 hours prior to the polices discovery of the bodies after concerned family members asked the police to check up on him after erratic behaviour. A member of the Wikimedia Foundation has suggested that the IP address quite likely belongs to the WWE Headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut.
