I have yet to see a single road sign that says "1200m until exit" rather than "3/4m until exit). US != metric.
Drive the I-95 in Maine. I saw metric exit signs from the NH border to Portlandia.

For some reason, the number, 867-5309, that I put on facebook never gets called. Go figure.
I think the reason that retired Canadians who six months minus a day in Florida or Arizona has more to do with US immigration laws as provincial regs on regarding the revocation of health insurance. Canadians can stay in the US for up to six months without a visa. I'm sure other sunnier countries have similar rules regarding non-working foreigners staying for extended periods of time.

Yeah, for cheap gas, come to Canada, it's only $1.27/litre here (at least in the Ottawa/Gatineau area). Sure you won't get cell service in 90% of the country, but the cell companies are so scummy you wouldn't want to deal with them anyhow.

I think I saw a Gatineau cop with cameras on the roof on Friday. I figure that it was an ANPR system, but thought was weird that the cameras appear to be pointed perpendicular to the road, rather than targetted at licence plates. go figger
I have experienced a mobile x-ray unit on the Canada-US border crossing once. They wouldn't explain what they were doing, but since the border drones get everyone to get out of their cars and take their pets with them, it was a pretty good assumption that they were pumping our vehicles full of radiation to snoop around.

In all fairness to the KGB and STASI, the reason that they didn't jail as many people as the the US does now is because they didn't have the same level of African-Americans, Aboriginals or Latinos to disproportionately imprison.
