BanjoTed writes: Here's an interesting opinion piece from MCV asking whether the games press has allowed its own thirst for 'hardcore' games to negatively influence its reporting of Xbox 360 Kinect, the launch games for which are clearly geared toward the casual audience. The writer also claims that as a result of writing some positive stories about Kinect he's faced some unexpected hostility not only from readers of the site but also from professionals within the industry itself.

News for nerds writes: "Via n4g, a poster at Beyond3D has confirmed that the graphics of Halo 3, a Microsoft Xbox 360 flagship game, is actually rendered in 1138x640 that is less than what can be qualified as HD resolution (1280x720 aka 720p) contrary to big Microsoft fanfare about Xbox 360 as a hi-def game console."

Submission + - Retailers Estimate Xbox 360 Failure Rate as 33% (adam.ne.jp)

News for nerds writes: "Dailytech reveals that EB Games held conference calls for its Canadian stores informing them of the new policy changes and revealing alarming failure rates of the Xbox 360. "The real numbers were between 30 to 33 percent," said former EB Games employee. An anonymous Best Buy customer service department manager said that failure rates for the console were "between a quarter to a third" of all units sold."
