My experience has always been the opposite. Linux for me has been far less tolerant of bad hardware than windows but honestly both have done well for me over the years.

The perfect game for me would be a KSP + Orbiter Mix.
For those looking at orbiter be sure to get the directx plugin. Windows 7 pretty much requires it for decent performance @ full screen.
In my area the jobs are looking for "software engineers" when they mean developers. To get past HR drones the resumes need to reflect this. They could call the role turbo monkey chicken designer and I would claim that title as well (provided I was qualified for it of course).
I always took this for granted until I took a close look at the most active bread basket areas along with the 2012/2008 election results. The strong bread basket area actually went blue. Blue counties would be fine for food anyhow. Plus they would have California so they would have the good food not just bread.
And it is awful. All remote desktop access to unix/Mac is awful. X, Vnc, no-machine. Windows excels at this which is funny because they started out not having this functionality at all and unix folks would make fun of them for lacking it. Now it is the unix variants that largely lack a usable technology in this space. Of course it is rarely needed as unix servers excel at being administrated via shell and windows sucks at that.
Rdp over ssh works well and is many times faster than X or VNC.
I have been doing this a long time. Very, very few companies care about degrees once you have a certain amount of experience.
A tablet doesn't do content creation but it does account for nearly 80% of my non work related Internet activity now (the other 20% would be my smartphone). I find that in most cases it is a better experience than a pc.
So in the future I could definitely see a tablet/phone hooking up to an external monitor and becoming your PC but we aren't there yet.
In the case of windows you double click on the MSI/EXE and go through the installer.
On linux you type apt-get install uh hrmm I forgot the syntax. Or maybe it is yum something or other. Oh wait there is this distribution specific marketplace app that occasionally works.
I would think Reddit is much, much larger than Slashdot. Alexia (no idea if this is accurate) has Reddit at 115 and Slashdot at 1,701. I may have misunderstood your post and weren't comparing site size.
Healthcare in the US is already socialized due to the fact that we do not refuse emergency medical services to the uninsured. Are you advocating that we no longer provide emergency medical services to the uninsured?
We already pay nearly twice what any other industrialized nation pays for health care with lower % of people covered and worse outcomes in just about every category. And yes I am familiar with all the arguments for why we have worse outcomes in the US.
I hope not. The gaming experience on a IOS (Or I presume android) device is pretty abysmal for most game types (does really well for others though).
Not knowing the term is arguably forgivable but not knowing anything about that problem domain is not. If the job was writing database apps and you were not able to describe the issue and discuss strategies in which you dealt with the issue on past projects I would not hire you.
On the majority of the sytems I have worked
on the layer dealing with this issue ends up being a large portion of the line count of the app.
On my previous contract the app (I did not write it) was 1 million lines of code of which 850,000 was tied up in the "orm" layer. This was due to the client picking a relatively popular orm generator library (nettiers).
So being ignorant of this problem domain can be quite a problem.
Lets say it has been gone for exactly 33 years from it's point of view. 33.00000005947923 years has passed from our point of view.
