Comment Preconceived Notions (Score 1) 600

Just like anything, people will consign to obvlivion anything that doesn't fit to their preconceived notions or the general dogma of the day.

Just look how any science that deals with racial differences (IQ, etc) is handled in the scientific community itself, or how Stephen Jay Gould was able to make a career out of political correctness on accusing past scientists of bias with brain sizes... while being completely off the mark himself.

Various stuff like that happens all the time in every era. Humans remain human.

A $30 aeropress coffee maker is as good as a $5000 espresso machine.

As an owner of an expensive automatic machine, not quite $5000 but up there, I like the convenience it offers and it makes great coffee for an automatic. I have to clean it very seldomly. The aeropress looks good for what it is although I don't trust plastic and hot water together.

A double edge safety shaver that uses 20 cent blades is far superior to any expensive disposable shaver system, even the ones with 5 blades.

Agree. Companies moved on from DE to proprietary cartridges for profit.

$150 Formica counter top fulfills all the duties of a $3000 granite counter top.

Not quite. I had formica crack under a hot pot, stain, scratch, and chip. The first I haven't seen my granite countertop of 10 years do, and the latter 2 were much, much reduced to nil. Might not be worth it to everyone though, I can see that.

I may enjoy writing following proper grammar rules, but that's just my personal preference and just because I like it, doesn't mean everybody should do so.

If we're going to be limp-wristed faggots about this, why not be a limp-wristed faggot on all subjects?

Oh, I may enjoy math following proper math rules, but that's just my personal preference and just because I like it, doesn't mean everybody should do so. No, I don't mind being shortchanged by a cashier, she probably wasn't being greedy, she was just following her own wonderfully unique set of math rules.

Why even bother sending the kids to school? They can learn their own unique way at home.

I'm never ceased to be surprised by your guys prices never match the advertised price. Surcharges/Fees/Taxes/Tips flying everywhere. About the only time I paid the price adverted was buying gas. And it's not like it's predictable "Oh, things will be 10% over the price", nope every industry from hotels to airlines to cellphones has it's own rules and offsets. Why hasn't there been a consumer revolt yet?
