You seriously don't think this happens already? Taxis are "required" to do lots of things they don't (like take credit cards). See how many taxis will pick you up or drop you off in a shit neighborhood. Hell, I've been denied taxi service to good neighborhoods just because the cab driver didn't feel like going that direction. Oh, and taxis are not part of a public transportation system.

Often times in socialist countries, there is a lot of back door and secret meetings where deals are made and the people are not aware of have no choice in the matter. Sometimes it works out in their benefit, but a lot of times it's nothing more then wealth redistribution to the rich and powerful. Often times the real cost of the deal is realized generations later...

Thank god that only happens in those socialist countries!

Uber is not going anywhere any time soon. It's dramatically better than the alternative (taxi). There will be bitching and moaning and lobbying in some areas, but it's too late to stop the paradigm shift. Twitter and WhatsApp and OpenTable are easily imitable, so those are more susceptible to cultural shifts and trends.

I almost referenced that song as well! :) Spend enough time on the north side, and you will absolutely have your car towed by Lincoln Towing. I've twice had my own car towed by them from spots I was paying to rent. Neither time would the company who leased me the space do anything on my behalf. There's a good reason those fuckers are behind bullet-proof glass.

MiniDisc was way ahead of its time. It filled a real gap for live recording enthusiasts as a portable solution before hard drive storage became portable/affordable. I had one with an Otter Box that had binaural microphones embedded in it. Was a great option for recording shows (band-permitted, not illicitly) in the late 90s/early 00s.

I take it you've never done much parking in Chicago. It's routine to ticket cars that are legally parked. Guilty until proven innocent. They know some portion of them won't fight it (or don't know they can fight it) and it will pay off. It's not like everyone's pissed off at the goody-goody hall monitor, it's that a lot of police forces are filled with assholes and criminals (e.g., CPD).
