Comment Re:We must be politically correct. (Score 0) 671

Right. God forbid that we should display some simple human decency and maybe some sensitivity.

What the fuck has happened to people? This is a mother mourning her child, for god's sake. I'm not giving much of a fuck right now about a multi-billion dollar corporation and their next license to print money.

If having some basic human decency is "politically correct" then fuckin' A. I'm as politically correct as they come.

Supermassive Black Hole Is Thrown Out of Galaxy 167

DarkKnightRadick writes "An undergrad student at the University of Utrecht, Marianne Heida, has found evidence of a supermassive black hole being tossed out of its galaxy. According to the article, the black hole — which has a mass equivalent to one billion suns — is possibly the culmination of two galaxies merging (or colliding, depending on how you like to look at it) and their black holes merging, creating one supermassive beast. The black hole was found using the Chandra Source Catalog (from the Chandra X-Ray Observatory). The direction of the expulsion is also possibly indicative of the direction of rotation of the two black holes as they circled each other before merging."

IBM and Hewlett-Packard have programs to reduce data-center power consumption, and the U.S. Congress has urged customers to buy efficient servers." The article doesn't mention anything about Google's urges for power supply redesign but with 450,000 servers, perhaps Dell is marketing more for these kinds of internet companies?"

The space agency rolled out today a strategy and rationale for robotic and human exploration of the Moon — determining that a lunar outpost is the best approach to achieve a sustained, human presence on the Moon." Check out their newly posted page on potential base designs."

Journal Journal: Exclusive: Sun's new big iron bends the rules

Sun has a new system - the Sun Fire x4600 M2 . At first glance you might think it's a quad-socket system, but look again. The Sun Fire x4600 M2 holds eight (eight!) easily swappable sockets. "Armed with current dual-core Opteron processors, this equals 16 cores per server, so a rackful would bring the total to 160 cores. The Sun Fire x4600 M2 will also be able to run with the next-generation quad-core AMD Opteron c
