When it comes to Arthur C. Clarke quotes, I like the following one at least as much:
When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong.
The one likely exception to that is that we probably won't ever come up with a way to travel faster than light.
