tech10171968 writes: "A US man awaiting trial on firearms offences is suing Microsoft after FBI technicians found self-made sex videos and evidence that he frequented porn sites on his PC. Michael Alan Crooker, currently on remand in a Connecticut jail on charges of selling illegally modified firearms and possessing bomb-making equipment, is inflamed that security settings on his PC failed to prevent Federal agents from finding out about his smut-surfing habits."

An anonymous reader writes: The Globe & Mail has a special report on a blogger who has been jailed for 4 years in Egypt, "three for incitement and insulting the Prophet Mohammed and Islam, and an extra one for defaming President Hosni Mubarak." The article also talks about how bloggers in Egypt are tacking difficult subject matter that is all but ignored by the mainstream media. This includes showing graphic videos of torture and violence that are used by the police in Egypt. This time, it's revealed that Microsoft considers Mac users its "guinea pigs" for new Office features, and they once considered dropping Mac Office entirely, "as doing so will do a great deal of harm to Apple immediately." This case has become a treasure trove of internal memos describing Microsoft's internal business practices of the last ten years.

An anonymous reader writes: Two goverment agencies is putting a hold on upgrades to Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system, Internet Explorer 7, and Office 2007." DOT and the FAA have similar bans in effect. DOT is exploring other options, including Novell's SUSE Linux and, for a subset of users, Apple's Macintosh hardware and software.
