Submission + - Hackers Successfully Install Linux on a Potato

briggsb writes: From the hilarious article: "Amsterdam, Netherlands — Hackers from the LinuxOnAnything.nl Web site successfully installed Linux on a potato. It's the first time the operating system has been successfully installed on a root vegetable." Wouldn't it have been easier to install it on a potato chip?

Submission + - The 42nd Anniversary of Star Trek:TOS

Captain Kirk writes: TodToday is the 42nd anniversary (the geekiest of all anniversaries) of the debut of Star Trek:TOS on television. To commemorate the occassion, Brian Briggs from BBspot is watching all ten Star Trek movies in a row (all 19 hours of them) and liveblogging the experience on BBspot via Twitter. Might I suggest mixing up a batch of Klingon Blood Wine and watching along with him? KHHHAAAAAN!

Submission + - More Protesters at the LHC

briggsb writes: From the article: As the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) nears completion, many people have worried about the implications of colliding subatomic particles at high velocities. Some have suggested that the device could destroy the Earth by creating black holes or dangerous subatomic particles, but a new group calling themselves People for the Ethical Treatment of Hadrons (PETH) are worried about the health of the subatomic particles." What's funnier are the tinfoil hat brigade that believe this stuff.

Submission + - Microsoft Vista Upgrade Decision Flowchart

briggsb writes: Tech satire site BBspot has created a hilarious flowchart that should help anybody still deciding whether to upgrade to Vista. Anybody from the novice user to the expert can use this easy to follow chart and take thinking out of the decision process. In other Vista news here is possibly the worst Vista headline ever and some we didn't see.

Submission + - College Professors to Be Replaced by Apple's iProf

briggsb writes: Maybe this is one of the new products Apple will be announcing on 9/12. From the story: "Steve Jobs announced the release of Apple's iProf line of computers which will replace human professors in college classrooms. These computers use advanced artificial intelligence algorithms and patented Internet searching techniques to create and deliver lectures for various subjects." Sure it's a joke, but it probably won't be long before every trace of human interaction is removed from education.
