Submission + - Amazon charges sales tax on "shipping and handling" (latimes.com)

An anonymous reader writes: By coincidence I noticed this myself the other night, and ended up ordering something from a supplier in Arizona, rather than Amazon, to avoid the sales tax. Now here is an article about it in the Los Angeles Times.

Sadly, you are right. When it comes to the economy, taxes, and other big issues, both the Dems and Reps vote the same way. They may talk a big talk on TV, but late at night, they make sure the vote both parties actually want gets through. They use stuff like gay marriage and abortion to distract everyone from the fact that they have been systematically removing our rights every year. They are looking at it long term. Maybe something big like the Patriot Act, followed a decade later by the TSA conducting warrantless searches on a mass scale.

No they are not. Prices have "stabilized", but the amounts have dropped. For example, that jar of peanut butter used to cost $5 but was maybe 24 ounces. Now the bottom is dimpled up where you can't see it and you only get maybe 20 ounces at the same price. Same thing happens throughout the whole store. There have been a number of Consumer Reports style news stories about this.
