Jon Johansen has published a small programs which allows the acquisition of DRM-free file from Apple's iTunes Music Store. He explains that his program works by bypassing iTunes which adds the DRM itself at the end of the transfer. His program, pymusique, is Windows-only compliant but it'd be easy to port it to other platforms.

Journal Journal: Interesting C#2.0 shifting bug

I have been advised to consult the following bug report which was submitted to the MSDN. A very fundamental bug occurs when you compile Console.WriteLine( ((int)-1) >> 1);. You'd expect a logical right shift to occur and the value -1 (0xFFFFFFFF) to be returned but you receive 2147483647 (0x1FFFFFFF) instead. Note that the bug has since been fixed and should not appear in the next MSDN release of Visual Studio. This information could be quite valuable to many developers, even though this bug does not occur in Mono !

There are new firmwares available for most iPods, they will bring new menu functionality and "better" iTunes connectivity:

iPod Updater 2005-02-22 includes new iPod mini Software 1.3 for iPod mini, new iPod Software 2.3 for iPod with dock connector, new iPod shuffle Software 1.1 for iPod shuffle, and new iPod Software 1.5 for iPod with touch wheel or scroll wheel. iPod Updater 2005-02-22 contains the same software versions as iPod Updater 2005-01-11 for all other iPod models.

Download and install the iPod Updater then connect your iPod shuffle, iPod, iPod photo or iPod mini to your computer. The iPod Updater will automatically determine if an update is required.
