If you're a Mac user using Flash, RAID, Apache or MYSQL, you might want to check out this latest record smashing patch. Some critics (the article mentions Charlie Miller) claim this is indicative of Apple's many bugs and say that even after having patched 134 issues, many more remain.

pickens writes: The Telegraph Reports that Amazon has withdrawn a controversial ebook about pedophilia from its Kindle ebook store following protests from customers. Although Amazon issues guidelines prohibiting certain works, including those deemed offensive, it does not define what is considered to constitute offensive content. The availability of the ebook, which can be downloaded on to Amazon’s popular Kindle reader, sparked a storm of protest, with scores of people threatening to boycott the online retailer until the text was removed from sale. Amazon had initially refused to delete the book, saying that it “supported the right of every individual to make their own purchasing decisions”, and that removing the ebook from the site would be tantamount to censorship. However, the document has now been deleted, although Amazon has not given any reason for its change of heart.

The species appears to be a hybrid of two other species (like a mule or liger). But the curious thing is that this hybrid isn't sterile — it reproduces asexually. The species, known for sometime in Vietnam, has now officially been named Leiolepis ngovantrii.

Though, in the comments on the laweekly.com story, a Rick Klau, "product manager on Blogger" does say [Feb 8th, 2009, 14:16 pm], when taking down content:

we send an email to the blogger using the address associated with their account and submit the original DMCA notice to chillingeffects.org. If a blogger wishes to challenge the DMCA notice, they can file a counter notice, at which time the original DMCA complainant has 14 days to file suit, or we will reinstate the removed content.

Google's outline of its DMCA procedures for Blogger: They require complainants to "IDENTIFY EACH POST BY PERMALINK OR DATE THAT ALLEGEDLY CONTAINS THE INFRINGING MATERIAL." They also have provision for counterclaims, and when they "receive a counter notification," they say they "may reinstate the material in question." But they don't specifically say that they will notify the blogger in response to receiving a claim -- or even in removing a post.

An anonymous reader writes "Google organized a flyover of Sydney, Australia last Friday for Australia Day. The images taken on the day will be posted to Google Maps in a few weeks. A number of dotcoms spent hours making huge signs that would be visible from the air. It will be interesting to see whether Google will repeat the event in other cities. If they do, get prepared early. What sign would you make?"
