Submission + - Almost '11 Whats the oldest file you can restore? 2

turtleshadow writes: Now that Its almost '11 who kept backups since before the Y2K non-event: Have you personally/professionally had to recover something from 10+ years ago?

If so share the interesting "hows" especially if you had to do multiple media transfers and file formats to get it "usable file format" on a modern hardware platform of your choice?
Native solutions are rated higher than Emulation. Also whats your plans for recovering in 2021?

Street cred goes to the oldest, most technical and complex restores... that are of course successful.

I'm working the night shift Christmas/NewYears, I ask everybody still stirring and hardcore SysOPs

Submission + - Why do movies still have closing credits?

Subm writes: Closing credits now commonly stretch for ten minutes. Early movies had closing credits of ten people. Why do we still have them? The typical answer is to credit the people who contributed, but that method seems ineffective: one name out of thousands is nearly invisible, it's only visible while watching the movie, and they're unsearchable. Meanwhile, every movie has a web page but those pages rarely list the full closing credits. If the goal of closing credits is to credit the people who contributed, won't posting them online serve that goal better? If the goal is to give time to show bloopers, why not just show the bloopers? (The same goes for tv shows)

Scientists Create Mice From 2 Fathers 435

An anonymous reader writes "Using stem cell technology, reproductive scientists in Texas, led by Dr. Richard R. Behringer at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, have produced male and female mice from two fathers. The study was posted Wednesday at the online site of the journal Biology of Reproduction. The achievement of two-father offspring in a species of mammal could be a step toward preserving endangered species, improving livestock breeds, and advancing human assisted reproductive technology. It also opens the provocative possibility of same-sex couples having their own genetic children, the researchers note."

Shakespeare probably didn't only write for art and yes, you can buy poems at your local bookstore for a couple bucks. I'm just suggesting that when you offer a prize for a proof; when you package up literature for a couple bucks, you lose a part of that creativity of the medium. I think, I don't know, I guess you would call it a suffocating experience. It's not an entirely bad thing, but you know, it's something to think about.
