I'm pretty sure eBooks make up 0% of PRINTED books sold.

people are leaving Photoshop in droves to pick up superior OSS tools like GIMP, they will leave Flash too.
I know you are trolling but this just makes me laugh. Many people rather pirate Photoshop than use GIMP. The reasons for this are plentiful. Like not being able to organize layers into folders. This is a very minute detail but it's so annoying when having lots of layers.
One of the big points is that there's no native support for cmyk in GIMP that just makes it plain useless for print-productions.
I agree that it's usable for day to day stuff like quick touch-ups and resizing but doing anything seriously is just a pain in the butt. So much so, that I rather fire up a virtual machine with windows on it when I am using linux than use GIMP for a prolonged time.
That's not to say that GIMP doesn't have it's application because it's extensibility and some of it's scripts are very nice but it sure as hell isn't a finished useable Photo and Picture editing program for media designers and other professionals.
it's not a business in all parts of Germany. They still get some tax breaks in some regions as a "registered association". But they definately need to tread it like a business if they continue to rob their followers of all their money.
You are right the catholic church WAS much worse than Scientology ever will be. Teaching creationism is very wrong because it brings religion into the public-school system which is run by the government which means that the separation of religion and government is not exercised. But guess what if they'd still torture and kill people for heresy or something like that we would fight them.
As for the stigma that comes with the belief, you're right again. It's wrong that most people think that Scientologists are loonies because that's just a belief like any other. But unless the Church of Scientology stops it's radical behavior against anybody opposing it this probably won't go away.
you don't get it. It's not about abolishing the scientologic belief. It's about the Organisation "Church of Scientology".
Get rid of the guys that are making it hard for it's members to leave and charge them an arm and a leg for "courses" and we're happy. The trial that decided that the "Church of Scientology" is not a religion specifically stated that individuals have the right to practice their belief.
Immortality may be practical for an individual but is very unpractical for society.
While I see death as a tragedy, I see it as a necessary tragedy.
For one thing immunity from aging leave enough time for bacteria and viruses to evolve into something deadly to you. So you probably are gonna die sometime anyways.
But what I think is far more important is that our development as an evolving being depends on us dying.
I don't mean just biological development but also technological and especially cultural development.
If a large amount of people with the same mindset would stay alive for centuries they might block out new and possibly better Ideas.
It would be like the middle ages all over again but this time possibly for ever.
While I certainly don't wish to die, I still see the necessity for it and I accept it.
Living on Earth may be expensive, but it includes an annual free trip around the Sun.
