Advanced "universal" memory technologies (fast, non-volitile) such as MRAM, FRAM, maybe RRAM will alter this landscape significantly. Submission + - Seven DIY Bloopers (extremetech.com)

ThinSkin writes: "As Oscar Wilde once quipped, 'Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes.' For Loyd Case over at ExtremeTech, he's had plenty of DIY experience. In his article on DIY bloopers, Loyd discusses some mistakes he's made when working with computers, while also pointing out other people's mistakes. One example learned from the article is that "your life is more important than your data." If your building is on fire, quit backing up your data and get the hell out."
