Comment Re:The issue is monopoly control (Score 1) 604

Several entirely unrelated things are being lumped together as the same thing in 'Net Neutrality'. They should be kept separate within the laws enacted . . .

The first is the cost of bandwidth - should those who pay more get more?

The second is prevention of monopolistic control of the internet by ISPs.

The last is corporate censorship of the internet.

It appears they forgot the whole 'checks and balances' thing when enacting a powerful censorship law. I'm not even sure what the 'Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement' has to do with copyright enforcement.

But hey, already found a scapegoat, a 'fresh college graduate' who'll be labeled as over-zealous while those actually in charge zip by.

I'm all for a country choosing it's destiny, just not dictators of that country being allowed to choose by killing their own people that disagree.

Despite your anti-US sentiment, South Korea would look like North Korea if not for our meddling. Europe would have become Nazi if not for our meddling. China would be a province of Japan if not for our meddling.

Sure, we messed up a few times, but don't be selective in your evidence.

I am all for the release of corruption and crimes, and against the suppression of leaks thereof. But that is not what happened.

Sure, having all your emails posted on the net for the international media to comment about can be embarrassing, but that doesn't make you a criminal. A quarter million documents were released, and not a single crime has yet to be found. Nadda. And frankly, as far as other governments are concerned, that makes me very proud of being an American.

So to you US-bashers, stop hating until a crime has actually been found.

I think you misread what I wrote?

Anyway, what you are thinking of is called an 'augmented microcontroller', of which I was referring too. The Arduino is a bare-bones budget level augmented mcu. There are much better augmented microcontrollers out there.

As for shields, they aren't nearly as useful as you think - they only exist because the Arduino doesn't have a power bus or a normal 0.1" header spacing.

Here is an example of another microcontroller - notice how the servo and the sharp IR simply plug in without a shield or additional wiring. Also, programming is nearly drag and drop.

Power_In = useful_power + wasted_power

useful_power / Power_In = efficiency

If both light and heat generated are all considered useful for the situation, then efficiency is 100%. The bulb was banned because heat was considered wasted energy, and in summer time I'd agree.

Energy from the environment, such as your example, should be included in the Power_In if you are determining true efficiency. Both sides of the power balance equation must be equal. Efficiency wrt grid energy, and total efficiency, are different.

I think this whole argument is a bit silly . . .
