Comment Re:Intelligence and Wisdom are Somewhat Orthogonal (Score 2) 213

You'll see it over and over again. People believe what they want to believe and what they want to believe is often what is in their best interest to believe. Don't get me wrong, people do not set out to close their minds to opposing points of view, but it usually takes an overabundance of evidence by a trusted party to convince anyone to change their minds, no matter how intelligent they are. As a corollary; the longer someone holds a particular view the more difficult it is for that person to change that view.

Of course I could be wrong, but you'll have to prove it to me.

IQ tests attempt to measure understanding and wisdom. The best IQ tests supply most of the knowledge necessary to correctly complete the problems.

For me its flexibility in the hours I work, access to training, and being able to write the kind of code that I think should be written for a project.

By flexibility to don't mean full time or part time, I mean that I can come and go as a please as long as I meet my project requirements and make my time.

Training includes classes, conferences, research projects, and access to research materials such as books and hardware.

I've worked for a couple of companies where I was just a code monkey who was only allowed to fill in the blanks that my betters left undone. That kind of job is a nightmare of poor design and implementation.

Why make up a bed in the morning when it's just going to be unmade that evening (or sooner if one likes an afternoon nap?)

When my kids offer that argument I'll let them leave their beds unmade. When dinnertime comes around I ask them why I should feed them, because they are just going to be hungry again tomorrow. Now they typically make their beds as soon as they wake up.

I wouldn't usually say this, but you need to update your resume and start looking for a new job. Its only a matter of time before he realizes that he can outsource you too.
I've seen the follow three scenarios play out, usually its number 2.

1. You find cheap professional quality developers who are available for your entire project cycle and do excellent work. Do they have anyone that can do your job?
2. You find cheap developers who hold it together long enough for them to find a better job. You'll really know your in trouble when you're on your third or fourth set of developers and the project appears to be going backwards. Ends in disaster.
3. You find cheap developers who can't find a better job and stick with your project for the entire cycle. Ends in disaster.
