People who oppose the death penalty on the grounds that it kills innocent people are making the implicit claim that it's somehow not just as bad for those innocent people to rot in prison forever, which is a horrifically barbaric ideology in and of itself.

Um, killing innocent people is worse than imprisoning innocent people. Don't get me wrong, imprisoning innocent people is wrong, and I support the idea that it is better for 1000 guilty men to go free than it is to imprison a single innocent. But to say that the killing of innocents is equally as bad as the imprisoning of innocents implies that, if someone were to ask you to choose either life in prison or execution for yourself, you would respond with something like "I don't care, flip a coin, they're both equally undesirable".

Since what tastes good varies between people, I think the results of any such study would merely be able to conclude that they taste different, not that one tastes better than the other.

I had a similar experience the first time I tried organic milk. I didn't know it wasn't the normal milk I usually drink, but I did notice that it tasted different. Not bad different, but not good different either, just.. different. It wasn't until several weeks later that I actually started to have a preference, but that preference is not static. Some days I prefer the organic stuff, some days the regular stuff.

Do you think there are ANY weapons which should be restricted in terms of private ownership?

Under the current laws, yes. Because if you allow an exception for one amendment without going through the proper procedure to change the constitution, you have just created a loophole that can be used to circumvent any amendment.

I see the need for SOME limits.

I see the need for some limits too. I just don't see the need to circumvent the constitution to implement those limits. If it is dangerous enough, surely there will be enough support in the various government bodies to follow the proper procedures that are in place for amending the constitution.

If God did indeed make the universe, then the universe itself is the ultimate testament to truth (whatever that is) - not a book - for the universe alone was authored by the hand of God. To deny it is to call God a liar.

Isn't that basically what some groups do? Specifically, I'm thinking about the groups that claim their god put fossils in the earth to trick us, but I'm sure there are others.
