actually, he complains all the time that the opponents of SOPA tell him the sky is falling when he does not think it is. so unbiased means something that does not resort to hyperbole to make the point. i'm pretty sure he will not be convinced, he actually said he'd like to see something *like* the DMCA but not like the DMCA to replace what has become of SOPA. but at least i want to make him understand the issue, as he does not seem to get it at all right now.

Submission + - How do you inform a non-technical person about the 1

skywiseguy writes: I know someone who continues to argue that the takedown of MegaUpload shows that the existing laws are not adequate and that we *need* SOPA/PIPA to protect the movie/music industries from offshore (non-US) piracy. I keep trying to inform him of the history the *AA's have brought to bear on the copyright laws and how these bills are something that will continue the abuse of copyright instead of ending piracy as they are claiming. He has no grasp on how DNS works, much less the internet in general. What can I do to show him how destructive these bills actually are, preferably with something that is as unbiased as possible?

except that the TSA does nothing but grope babies and keep you from taking toothpaste and contact lens fluid on a plane. i have personally lost two of those TSA "master lock" luggage locks because they either took them off and kept them, or cut them off and threw them away. either way, the TSA needs to go no matter who the government invents as the next boogeyman to frighten us all in our sleep.

there are other websites out there that stream live sports, it's not like espn360 is unique in the content they deliver. this is just extortion at its base level, from a company that has the legal muscle to do pretty much whatever they feel like doing. if you want to watch a live baseball game, MLB has a pay per view site. if you want to watch tennis, there's a pay per view site for that too. in addition to at least one free site that i've used for all sports, www.myp2p.eu

Amen to that! I do a lot of travel to client sites for my job, and I live in California, so having a motorcycle means I no longer worry about being stuck in traffic. Of course, I can no longer claim traffic as the reason I am late getting back to the office either...

And so your solution is... maybe the Jews should go willingly into some Hamas-prepared ovens? Then the Hamas types will be ok with living in peace with their bones?

Regardless of your opinion of Israel or Hamas's behavior, you must acknowledge that Israel is in an existential fight for its survival.

Israel is destroying itself from within the longer it allows the conflict to continue. The separation wall they are building along (and inside) the Green Line is taking up resources that were once used to feed and clothe their own children. Providing security and supplies to the settlers in the West Bank costs money that would be better spent investing within the *un*disputed Israeli borders. The main reason for pulling out of Gaza was that it was getting too expensive to station several army units to protect a few thousand settlers. Until Israel recognizes that making peace with its neighbors is the only way to be a truly secure nation, it will continue to destroy itself.

Plus your invoking of the Holocaust of course means we are supposed to break down and give the Israelis sympathy for inflicting a different sort of Holocaust on the Palestinian peoples. What's the difference between the ovens of Nazi Germany and the gunship airstrikes and house demolitions the IDF undertakes on an almost daily basis? Israel has not killed nearly as many Palestinians as the Holocaust killed jews (yet) but they are certainly making a good effort of it.
