Deforestation? Who burns green firewood? Where I'm from lots of people have wood heating, but they only burn naturally dead wood because:
a. Green firewood is much more difficult to light.
b. Green wood makes a very acrid unpleasant smell.
c. Green wood increases creosote, which increases chances for chimney fires and clogs.
d. In addition, it is illegal to cut down green trees for firewood.
In summation, cutting long-since dead trees shouldn't cause deforestation. Saying so makes you sound like one of those people who are ignorant of how things work here, but somehow think they deserve a say in what we do.

5.1.2600 is the kernel version for XP Pro. OpenSUSE 11.1 is the release name, and if I'm not mistaken its kernel was 2.6.27.

"Manned river" (but with the er in river pronounced differently) is easier to say than Ooboontoo or Soozu, IMO...

Mandriva deserves some love. It was the first distro that enabled the correct graphics driver on my laptop (on most distros I'd have to manually change xorg.conf to use vesa--even though this was around summer last year) and configure my wifi card correctly straight from the liveCD. No distro I've tried to date properly configures my audio chipset, but the workaround works as well on Mandriva as it does on any other.

In other words, Mandriva has the best hardware detection of any distro I've tried. My congratulations to the developers on their new release!

No I also like Mandriva. Here's to hoping Mandriva 2010 undoes some of the damage caused to the Linux image by the Ubuntu Karmic release SNAFU.
I wouldn't mind seeing Mandriva gain some ground, and some new packages in the process.

Doesn't Adept use Apt just like Synaptic? So it should be the same as using aptitude instead of apt-get. Now if you used rpm (which is available in the apt repositories) to install the package, then that could have the effect you are talking about.

The ones with dangerous turtle/dinosaur kidnappers that hire turtles as sentry guards. The plumbers know how to make proper use of the mushrooms and piping that, naturally, are so common in such a society.

It might also be a problem if you intentionally exposed the patients to the flu virus but that is not necessary considering how widespread the virus is. I, for one, would be willing the be a guinea pig in such a (double blind) study.

Seriously, is that so complicated? I would have no problem participating in that study (assuming I was compensated for getting the flu--that stuff sucks). It's not like the flu is exceptionally dangerous, so where is the opposition coming from?

Someone really ought to come up with a letter to refute the idea that piracy hurts the economy as a whole. Then they should send this rebuttal to the lawmakers in charge so we won't see more laws against things like "the circumvention of a copy protection measure."

What's wrong with my view where I say yes, it is bad, but I'm have no interests in the BSA so it doesn't concern me? I know people aren't just burning the money they saved from it--so I can't see how can it be harming the economy as a whole. Is that not the broken window fallacy?
