Comment Take out the clock battery and .... (Score 1) 375

NASA Revamps Historic 4-Million-kg Mars Antenna 66

coondoggie writes NASA is working on some difficult renovations to reinvigorate its 70-meter-wide 'Mars antenna.' The antenna, a key cog in NASA's Deep Space Network, needs about $1.25M worth of what NASA calls major, delicate surgery. The revamp calls for lifting the antenna — about 4 million kilograms of finely tuned scientific instruments — to a height of about 5 millimeters so workers can replace the steel runner, walls and supporting grout."

Comment The new Mr Fusion? (Score 1) 219

There is really no harm in actual fusion reactor with what limited raw materials to create fusion for most people could get. The problem of most fusion reactors is getting the first "spark" or ignition to get the fusion process started. After ignition the other problem maintain the fusion process.

Stand-Alone Antivirus Software? 159

An anonymous reader writes "I work for a company that repairs specialty devices that have an embedded Mini-ATX motherboard without a CD-ROM drive and run Windows XP Home. And while the USB flash drives we insert into them have a physical write-protect tab, we still encounter a (rather annoying) display dialog from malware/viruses to remove the write-protect so the malware can infect the flash drive. We don't remove the write-protect, obviously, but would like to offer our customers the option of removing the malware/virus without having to install any software. We would rather not install/uninstall antivirus software even for one-time use, due to various licensing issues, nor do we want to connect to the Internet to use web-based online scanners. Is there any stand-alone anti-virus/anti-malware software for Windows that can be run directly from the write-protected flash drive itself?"

Comment Nothing new (Score 1) 136

I used to work in a building that also had the FEMA and they would get a "bomb threat" and we would evacuate the entire building and we would leave for the day so that police could investigate. After awhile we noticed these bomb threats would happen in afternoon of nice days and Fridays so we guest that someone didn't want to work that afternoon or wanted a long weekend so they would call a "bomb threat". After FEMA moved out of the building and the bomb threats stopped that we knew that someone at FEMA was doing this.

Comment Idea of a show in era of pre 9/11... (Score 1) 955

since 9/11 now all of the world air traffic are well monitored and any aircraft this sized will be found with all of world resources at it disposal to prevent another occurrence of 9/11. If there was "hidden" island in the world they will find that airplane and it all people (alive or dead) and as many pieces of the plane to ensure they have found the plane so the aircraft won't be used for ill will.
This show started to have a "good" idea then went off the deep end of reality so I stopped viewing awhile back.
