FreeNAS Switching From FreeBSD To Debian Linux 206

dnaumov writes "FreeNAS, a popular, free NAS solution, is moving away from using FreeBSD as its underlying core OS and switching to Debian Linux. Version 0.8 of FreeNAS as well as all further releases are going to be based on Linux, while the FreeBSD-based 0.7 branch of FreeNAS is going into maintenance-only mode, according to main developer Volker Theile. A discussion about the switch, including comments from the developers, can be found on the FreeNAS SourceForge discussion forum. Some users applaud the change, which promises improved hardware compatibility, while others voice concerns regarding the future of their existing setups and lack of ZFS support in Linux."

I don't know the law behind it, but there gotta be some.
At least in Sweden, the rental movies are special versions, that are very much more expensive than a consumer dvd. I heard of some people getting there rental movie stolen, and then being asked to pay ~200$ for it.

If any program or technology makes it too easy to copy parts or entire works of literature, and many people start to do this, the book industry will start organizations that work against this, and try to ban programs, issue campaigns to tell the public what is morally right and in the end, try to limit your (or copyright infringers) access to public libraries.

Theft? THEFT?
My god, they have named an entire organization after a misconception. Unless they work for the (quite few?) artists that have been lured (should have payed more attention to reading the contract before signing it) into an contract that deprives them of their rights to there works, thus their copyright, to media companies.

It's not everyday when a random person at the internet steals the copyright of a work on the internet. The proper term is a violation of the copyright law, and making an illegal copy of the work.

Submission + - The Pirate Bay blacked out 1

CHJacobsen writes: Several Swedish news outlets report that The Pirate Bay has gone down. Black Internet (a major bandwidth-provider to the site) has been forced by a swedish court to pull the plug, or face a fee of 500000 SEK (around 70000 USD).

This decision is unique in swedish legal history, since the conviction against The Pirate Bay has been overruled. It comes as a result of a lawsuit filed by Monique Wadsted, a representative of the movie industry.
