Comment I'm loving Android Studio (Score 1) 115

I'm working on my first Android app right now, using Andoid Studio. I'm thrilled, as I could NOT get a stable Eclipse environment working for Android on my Windows box, even though I had successfully done Blackberry programming with Eclipse.

AS beta 0.8.14 has been rock solid. I'm a bit paranoid to upgrade in the middle of a project, and will stick to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy.

He's just trying to ease the public into acceptance of euthanasia. I'm not necessarily opposed to euthanasia (by choice), but, it's not widely enough accepted for those who believe in a "duty to die," and who might like to see that built in to our "health care" system.

How many of us would say that traditional print, TV and radio ads have influenced us? Most would say they've not been affected. (And, some of those claims would actually be correct.) Yet, money keeps pouring into advertising, so, the ad buyers are convinced that it does make a difference.

WRT screen real estate, I get Firefox to leave more room than Chrome by making a couple of tweaks: Use View/toolbars/customize to move the URL bar and the few buttons I use, to the Menu bar. Also on View/toolbars, turn off visibility of the Navigation toolbar, and the Add-on bar. Next, add an extension called Hide Menubar. This allows you to just hit the Alt key if/when you need the menu, or the URL bar or buttons that now reside there. Conveniently, when I hit Ctrl-T for a new tab, the menu is shown, with the cursor in the URL bar, ready for me to type a new address. (I don't recall if I had to do any fiddling to make that occur.)

Sounds like a wise choice. I know Facebook isn't the only app employees might waste your time on, with their phones. Every time I see someone's employee fiddling with their phone -- usually while not providing customer service, but always while stealing paid time -- I wonder how they manage to remain employed.

I am doing exactly as you've described, with T-Mobile, prepaid. I'm hardly an expert, but recently got interested in a Blackberry with a better camera than my old throwback phone. When I discovered the BB model had wifi, and that it would work without a data plan, I was sold, and headed to ebay for a second-hand purchase.

That stuff is barely worth keeping at all; not worth putting in a file cabinet; and certainly not worth the trouble of digitizing. Put it in a box or drawer chronologically, not even sub-divided by type. (Ok, keep you mortgage and insurance papers filed in a cabinet.) In the rare instance where you need to refer to a credit card bill, you'll find it easily enough. After 5 or 6 years, start purging and shredding the oldest stuff.

No need to over-complicate your life.

Maybe you should take a(nother) look at Opera. It has a nice compression service option. It's proxy based, compresses and marginally degrades images, and is otherwise transparent to the user.

I am forced to use IE with my Dialup provider (image compression only works with IE6/7/8), and it stinks. Mostly from the lack of features.

1928 Time Traveler Caught On Film? 685

Many of you have submitted a story about Irish filmmaker George Clarke, who claims to have found a person using a cellphone in the "unused footage" section of the DVD The Circus, a Charlie Chaplin movie filmed in 1928. To me the bigger mystery is how someone who appears to be the offspring of Ram-Man and The Penguin got into a movie in the first place, especially if they were talking to a little metal box on set. Watch the video and decide for yourself.
