Energy Costs for IT Skyrocketing

PreacherTom writes: It is said that money makes the world go round, and that is truly the case with technology. Without power, there is no computing; without money, there is no power. Businessweek reports a growing trend toward "Green IT" as power costs jump to consume 40% of IT budgets. Rakesh Kumar, research VP at Gartner, says this kind of consumption and wastage in the IT industry is not sustainable. "This is bad for the environment and bad for business. Enlightened consumers and enterprise buyers will increasingly vote with their wallets, choosing more sustainable products and services from suppliers with environmentally conscious corporate social responsibility programs."
