Submission + - Google Sued by Aussie Competition Watchdog (abc.net.au)

orin writes: The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is taking Google to the Australian Federal Court alleging that the Internet search engine has engaged in misleading and deceptive conduct on the basis that Google doesn't make sponsored advertisements clearly differentiated from normal search results. The ACCC is a government body that has wide ranging powers in Australia and is supposed to promote competition and fair trade in the market place to benefit consumers, business and the Australian community. Google is reported as saying the claims are without merit and will be defended vigorously.

Submission + - Tim Berners-Lee Predicts Tech Future

An anonymous reader writes: Web inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee testified before Congress on Thursday about the "digital future." He offered up a couple of predictions which went beyond generalities, including cell phones would use radio technology to communicate with everyday objects wrapped in surfaces equipped with digital billboards. He also talked about the Semantic Web, or a Web of "machine-processable data," which is under development at the U.K.'s Southhampton University, where Berners-Lee holds a position. Do you think such predictions are valuable, or is it "Star Trek" stuff which Congress ultimately can't understand and pays little attention to.
