Submission + - Move over Chrome, Opera now has the fastest JS eng (geektechnica.com)

pavs.ma writes: Most of us know that Opera has been at the forefront of Browser innovation for the longest time, yet remains at the bottom of pile when it comes to desktop browser market share. Its a sad story and even the best of us have a hard time figuring out why this is so. But this doesn’t stop Opera from making major innovations and changes with each new release.

With Opera 10.5 Alpha (Evenes), released today, comes a brand new JavaScript Engine (Carakan) written from scratch, and some major UI changes.

Submission + - Linux Mint Asks Israelis to Stop Using Distro (linuxhaxor.net) 1

samcan writes: As noted by a LinuxHaxor post about the original post: (which has since been moved and edited)

[L]ead maintainer of ... Linux Mint, made a blog post on the official Linux Mint blog (the post was moved since and the original message heavily edited) asking people from Israel and sympathizers of their cause to not only stop giving donation to Linux Mint but also to stop using Linux Mint altogether.

LinuxHaxor notes that there were over 300 comments to the original post, which I cannot find now.

The listed top 10 are hardly all "netbooks". Acer Aspire One is the best of the bunch IMO; and the fact that you can customize (even Mac OS X ?) to your heart's content, gets added brownie points. Most popular Linux OS can be easily installed on the aspire one if Linpus doesn't cut it for you. Submission + - A Comprehensive guide to Nmap with screenshots (linuxhaxor.net)

pavs.ma writes: "What is Nmap? Nmap ("Network Mapper") is a free open source utility for network exploration or security auditing. It was designed to rapidly scan large networks, although it works fine against single hosts. Nmap uses raw IP packets in novel ways to determine what hosts are available on the network, what services (application name and version) those hosts are offering, what operating systems (and OS versions) they are running, what type of packet filters/firewalls are in use, and dozens of other characteristics. Nmap runs on most types of computers and both console and graphical versions are available. (source)"

Submission + - Cracking Windows Admin pass with Backtrack2 (linuxhaxor.net)

pavs.ma writes: "One of several ways to gain Admin passwords in a windows system, if you have physical access to the system is by using a boot live linux distro like Backtrack2. Backtrack is a pen-testing distro so obviously it is loaded with all kinds of software to help you do security tests in both local and remote systems. http://www.linuxhaxor.net/blog/"
