Submission + - Google Brings Back The Fade (csmonitor.com) 1

cosm writes: I'm sure many folks have already noticed the new fade-in that occurs when you move your mouse on Google's home page. Will this minimalist approach last? In the days of web portals aggregating more and more, less can sometimes provide a better experience. I wonder how long they keep this, for I'm guessing there are a subset of individuals who hate it, don't understand it, or it doesn't work in their favor.

Submission + - Replacing The Monetary System (thezeitgeistmovement.com)

cosm writes: I just finished watching both the Zeitgeist Movement Orientation Guide & "Zeitgeist : Addendum". Both movies provide interesting perspectives as to what is really wrong with the world today, placing the blame on having a self-destructive monetary based system, proposing a "Resource Based Economy" as the solution. As a civilization, are we living in a flawed system, one that makes us slaves to currency? In light of the recession, is it reasonable to consider the possibility that the monetary system, great descendant of many lines of barter methodologies, should be considered obsolete? If you haven't seen the movies, consider perusing the PDF that explains the rationale behind their philosophy, Orientation Guide [PDF]. What are your thoughts?
