Good Deep-Knowledge Analog Design Books? 65

NorthNitro writes "I live in a part of the world where quality technical books are not accessible from local distributors. When I order, from international distributors, I have to keep exchange rate and shipping costs in mind; so I really need to be careful with my choices when purchasing books. I am a graduate engineer (5 years experience) that focuses on analog and digital hardware design. Next year I will be starting a complicated analog design project. This design will include circuits that integrating Pico amp currents, a lot of discrete transistor circuits and high precision op-amp circuits. I don't want a cookbook; I rather want something that can provide me with solid theoretical descriptions/models of circuits. The kind of knowledge that gives you deep understanding of analog circuits design. Can anyone suggest good books and maybe where to order them from?"

Submission + - Could alien life exist as DNA-shaped dust?

David Shiga writes: "Could alien life exist in the form of dancing specks of dust? A computer simulation by Gregor Morfill of the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics and colleagues shows electrically charged dust can organize itself into DNA-like double helixes that behave in many ways like living organisms, reproducing and passing on information to one another, New Scientist reports. Whether it could be considered alive or not, there are many places in space where conditions might be favorable to self-organizing dust, such as the rings of Saturn."

Submission + - Man flies 193 miles in lawn chair (cnn.com)

GillBates0 writes: "CNN is reporting that Kent Couch managed to fly 193 miles in a lawn chair fitted with 105 helium balloons. The flight lasted approximately 9 hours, after which he touched down safely in an Oregon farm. As he made about 25 miles an hour, a three-car caravan filled with friends, family and the dog followed him from below. In 1982, Larry Walters tried a similar feat in Los Angeles and surprised an airline pilot, who radioed the control tower that he had just passed a guy in a lawn chair. His wife was quoted as saying "I know he'd be thinking about it more and more, it would always be on his mind. This way, at least he's fulfilled his dream.""
