The law called "DDL intercettazioni" (Wiretapping Act) from Italy's Prime Minister Silvio Berlisconi is an attempt to gag bloggers from posting unfavorable remarks.

Calderon initially told the SF Weekly that six people wearing badges and identifying themselves as San Francisco police officers searched his home one evening in July, rifled through his belongings and computer and "threatened" him over the missing phone.

oxide7 writes: For the first time, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has ordered a mandatory evacuation of 300,000 residents of the cities coastal areas as Hurricane Irene barrels up the East Coast. Buses and subways prepared to shut on Saturday as Hurricane Irene approaches as well.

All New Jersey rail service will be suspended from noon Saturday, while the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will institute a shutdown of trains and buses starting at the same time. The suspension will include subways, buses, the Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad and Access-A-Ride. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey will suspend PATH train service at noon as well.

"This is a mandatory evacuation," Bloomberg said. "By five o'clock tomorrow you have to be out. Waiting for the last minute is not a smart thing to do. This is life threatening."

While nobody can know ahead of time just how much destruction a Category 3 Hurricane like Irene will do, specialty companies that specialize in catastrophic risk analysis are armed with historical data as well as links to national computer centers that track the storm in real time. "There's a huge market for this kind of material," said a spokesman for the Cornell Theory Center, a national supercomputer center at Cornell University.

While the tablet itself was nothing to write home about, the software, the webOS that runs the tablet, is a gem. And it appears that while HP will not make hardware anymore, it will continue to develop the operating system and building up the ecosystem around it.
