No they did not. Not a single line.

All 100% of the code in Android is either:
a) Written by Google, or people Google paid to write the code.
b) Taken from project apache harmony(Or other projects) which have a license which allows usage of their code. (Not from oracle projects).

That "collection of small things" is really only true for bash scripts. Just look at the software most people running linux and *nix around 2000 used.

Things such as:
Apache: Anything run as one tool/process.
Mysql: Also runs as one big tool/process.
Gimp: Also one big process: Have you ever tried to use a gimp plugin, outside gimp?
Bind: One big process.
The entire graphics system.
X Kde and Gnome: I think you got the point.

The linux kernel itself: One big system, where the parts can not be used outside the kernel.

To to sum up: That "Unix runtime and tools were originally designed as many small tools" is a myth outside of bash scripts, which obviously were designed to be used together.

Is the shop getting the credit card number a US thing?

Where I live, almost all websites, uses a third party gateway to receive payments, and all the shop get is the money. Even for subscriptions. So it works exactly like if I use my card in a physical shop.

But then again: if you want to hide you bought an HDMI cable, you may have far larger problems.

As the production of wind energy increases, It may be in big problem in the future, which is why there are being build new power transfer lines, and invested in huge energy storage systems.

15$ might be to much for a student. But the main problem is: Paying 15$/month only works if you live in USA.

For the rest of the world, a huge part of the content you can get on a USA Netflix account is simply not available on any kind of streaming platform.

Here are for example, my personal list of what I would like to watch, but which is neither available at HBO or Netflix.

A star is born
Margin call
Limitless
The founder
Money ball

So only solution is buying dvd's and that get expensive.

Of cause the bank got a processing fee there. They get paid each time a company delivery money to them.

In fact the fee might be larger then if you had paid with a credit card, depending on details such as amount of cash transactions/credit card transactions, distance to bank, risk, country and so on.

Sorry, but I disagreee.

Both systemd and PulseAudio are far better then what is available for Windows.

Gnome 3 sucks, but that is why I run Kde instead.

I don't know anything about NetworkManager. I don't have any issues with wireless networks on my desktop, but it is a simple setup, where I just use wireless to get internet. Is there an issue with complex situations?

Comment Re:What a mess but... Stardock is to blame here (Score 2, Interesting) 185

I really don't think Stardock is that much to blame.

The situation started because "Ford and Reiche" sold the rights to the Star Control trademark(name). And after they had sold that, they announced that that they were creating a successor to Star Control. And they are obviously not allowed to do that.

The ip situation is odd. Star Dock agree that they don't own the ip itself, but they claim they don't use it(And thus don't need it), because Star Control: Origin contains their own ip, set in the Star Control universe.

Personally I don't really care that much. Newer been a big fan of Star Control. But I don't understand how anyone could ever imagine that buying/selling the trademark, but not the right to the ip itself was ever going to be anything but a big mess.

Somehow unrelated: Star Dock had the right to sell the old Star Control games.
