Comment Surely Sony Server Software Shall Stay Secure (Score 1) 306

Right now I am glad that I don't use PS3, PSN, or SOE products or services as I am a computer gamer & wasn't interested in SOE games. I don't use Sony hardware in my PC since the Sony rootkit issue. I did have some respect for the Sony brand when it came to electronics and non-PC hardware but after this fiasco I will take my money elsewhere. As I register my products I don't want a company with lax security & little respect for my information to handle my any of my data. The only way for Sony to make a little face is to terminate all employees (individual contributor & management) who had a part in securing systems with user data. That would mean all the way up the management chain if high level execs had a part, even a small part.

This is old news. I got my tax payer funded router (thanks) about 3 months ago. The online reports are very neat and shows me that I'm glad my life doesn't depend on my ISP.

I'd like to run the reports monthly versus weekly and daily though, I'll write SamKnows and ask about that.

Comment Community impact (Score 2) 162

I'm looking forward to the actual community impact of ultra high speed when most areas in USA don't have the same level of service. The regional impacts to Kansas City metro area governments (will they offer competing services?), wireline telcos (AT&T), cable operators (Time Warner, Comcast, SureWest), and other business sectors. The impact to education will be interesting to analyze. If Kansas City KS starts sucking up all the new start ups and attracting a lot more business the surrounding areas will respond quicker to competitive products and services.

Submission + - Google announces ultra high speed for Kansas City (blogspot.com)

glittermage writes: Remember the Google community ultra high speed project? The first city was announced this morning and it's only a few miles away.

From the article, "In selecting a city, our goal was to find a location where we could build efficiently, make an impact on the community and develop relationships with local government and community organizations. We’ve found this in Kansas City."

I am excited to see the regional impacts to Kansas City metro area. Maybe my cable company will be jealous and offer some ultra high speed love at a reasonable cost.

Comment Gaming Idea (Score 1) 279

I've had a roughly similar idea for a game that keeps resurfacing last 15 years. With cloud computing catching & technology advances I might actually learn programming to build my game.

Minecraft is the closest game I know of that is about building blocks and huge worlds where players move around and change things. That is the foundation for my game & things differ much from there.

I bought four copies of Alpha & my in-laws bought 3 copies in Alpha & host a server for us.

It's fun now & we are all excited about future updates. The money was well spent.

Comment Lost sales (Score 1) 439

My in-laws, children, and gaming friends are multiplayer nuts, especially co-op play. So a good game that comes along with co-op or multiplayer versus gets about 10 to 20 sales depending on whether it's RTS/FPS (family not so much into FPS).

Some games the "group" have passed up include King's Bounty, Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect, The Witcher, and others. The "group" still plays Supreme Commander, Age of Empires III, and Titan Quest. All of which are co-op and versus multiplayer.
