Comment Re:Just because the "best days" are in the past.. (Score 2) 322

Sure, Google is still king of search, but it hasn't been able to get much traction in other areas (e.g. social networking). The article was written from an investment point of view not technological. As an investment GOOG has been disappointing for the past few years compared to other tech leaders. So this begs the question whether or not its "best days", as an investment, are past. It still remains to be seen whether Android will be able to contribute significantly to the company's revenue growth. The key word is growth, MS still continues to make tons of money, but their future growth prospects remain dubious which is reflected in their stock price.

RIM could have done that: Build on Android, add all the RIM messaging magic and some security features: Hit.

Wouldn't that mean that RIM would have to open source their changes if they decided to use Android because of GPL? I don't think they want to divulge their secrets.

Google going extremely strong? Looking at the stock price, its performance is only on par with HP in the last 5 years; yet you call HP a "degraded" company. Look at Amazon, Oracle, Apple, all of these companies have done much better in the same time period. It takes a visionary leader for a company to be great, engineer-driven is not the key ingredient.

Dividends are usually not guaranteed either (unless we're talking about preferreds), so I don't see why anyone who thinks the stock market is a "house of cards" would feel safer holding dividend paying stocks. By your logic aren't you still a chump for giving a lump sum of money away so that it can be slowly given back to you in small uncertain increments?

Comment Trust? (Score 2) 410

Sorry, but I don't trust having all my apps run from the web. Just the other day I was on a tight deadline trying to print a document from Docs when it crapped out on me refusing to print. It was late at night, so it's understandable if they needed to do some server maintenance. Or possibly it wasn't even Google's fault because there may have been issues with my ISP, but either way I was helpless to do anything. I would prefer to having things run locally and automatically sync to the cloud when possible.

Comment Re:Founder of Apple realizes what he said (Score 5, Interesting) 251

Apple trades at around 20 times its earnings, similar to Google and Oracle which are both market leaders as well. Nothing out of the ordinary here. What doesn't seem to make sense is why a company like Amazon trades at 60 times its earnings. Is its growth potential 3 times greater than Apple?

Comment Re:White Album (Score 1) 551

The dip is caused by them now selling at a loss (which is pretty stupid, because if they hung onto it they could probably sell at a profit in six months or less).

Or it could be other investors selling because of the spike. Isn't it a bit presumptuous to assume that they're the same people selling at a loss?
