Comment Re:Why the desk hate? (Score 1) 460

Same here. I've been using a kitchen table for some time now and I LOVE it. It's large enough to support my two 22" monitors and I can still rest my whole forearm on it when I use the mouse. I like that the keyboard is at the same level as the mouse. I find it more comfortable to play FPSs this way. It is easier too to use refence books while using the computer for the same reasons you told. I cut out a big piece of vinyl flooring to protect the table (I used to use the table for cleaning my firearms and didn't want the chemicals to ruin the wood) and it doubles as a giant mousepad. I used to use an expensive computer desk, now it houses a server and my ham shack.

I totally agree with you, hence the word "likely". Of course it's the people that makes the difference, the code won't debug itself on its own. What I meant is that MORE people CAN peruse the code than in a closed source environment. Because an infinite number of people can look at the code doesn't mean that it will.

Do you have any evidence for this or is it just your belief?

Of course I don't have evidence, and I suspect you knew the answer to your question before you asked it. Would you yourself spend an hour or two of your life doing research for the sake of a two line comment and furthermore for something that is as clear as 2 + 2 = 4 ? Who needs evidence anyway ! :-P

That better is not perfect ? Who told you that open source software had absolutely no flaws ? The open source software paradigm does not prevent bugs. It only makes it more likely that those bugs will be caught sooner since so many eyes can peruse the code. If you're not satisfied, ask for a refund...

Many people will agree, This story should never have been publicized. This man used the media's own lack of professionalism and thirst for sensationalism to his own gain. Good for him. They should be thanking him for having put their nose into their own shit and should remember the lesson they've just been taught.

Of course, not every provider does that. Maybe yours don't, but give them some time, they might get there eventually. My cell is a Samsung SGH-e747 and I'm with Fido (in Quebec). If you ever find a way to do that while not having to crack it or use an untrustworthy russian firmware or use a solder iron, I might consider letting you win the argument...

WRONG !

I would make my own ring tone if I could! So why can't I then? Nowadays, if the tunes aren't locked with a DRM from the cell company, you just can't use them as ring tones! So you don't have a choice. If you don't pay, you don't get to have a ring tone. I'm guessing that their biggest market has to be teenagers who probably have more free time then money to spend and who would gladly make their own ring tones if they could.

You are absolutly right. I'm a french speaking client of Videotron myself and I can attest that almost no one here is really aware of what is going on in the copyright world right now. The thing is, probably the most popular newspaper here (Journal de montreal) is also the property of Quebecor as well as canoe.ca and the most popular TV channels TVA and LCN, LCN being a news only channel just like CNN. Quebecor controls the news here... Suffice to say you rarely see (if ever) news that don't show them in a good light.

Oh we're screwed !
