Actually use GUIDs. You will run out of numbers (finite) long before you run out of GUIDs (infinite). So no, incrementing numbers is not correct. Also if you are using SQL replication and the likes incrementing numbers will clash and you will need to have a GUID column anyway. If you were the enterprise developer you think you are you would know this. If I was your boss I'd suggest you start looking for a new job based on both your talent and your attitude.

Google, Apple Joust Over Rejected Voice App 228

ZipK writes with an update to last month's FCC inquiry that landed Apple and AT&T in hot water over the apparent rejection of a Google Voice app for the iPhone. All three companies submitted statements to the FCC — Apple claimed the app hadn't been rejected at all, that they were simply "studying" it further. The public version of Google's statement contained a redacted section, which they politely referred to as "sensitive," but after seeing Apple's comments, they decided to reveal the entire document. Google's FCC filing directly contradicts what Apple said: "Apple's representatives informed Google that the Google Voice application was rejected because Apple believed the application duplicated the core dialer functionality of the iPhone. The Apple representatives indicated that the company did not want applications that could potentially replace such functionality." (PDF, page 4.) Apple quickly released a statement reiterating that they did not reject the app.

Submission + - Google's Leaked Memo on Apple's Rejection of Googl (sfgate.com) 2

ZipK writes: "Yobie Benjamin gives a short explanation of why he's abandoned the iPhone in favor of Android as his mobile development platform. More interestingly, he links to a memo in which Google details for the FCC their view of Apple's rejection of Google Voice."

I think we are on the same page... which initially I didn't, i thought it was from the point of view of IT (in support of and IT dictatorship). Nowhere I have worked during my career would someone get fired for fogetting passwords etc. most places with bad IT realise that they have bad IT. Getting fired for no work being done due to bad IT policy is just an unfair dismissal case waiting to happen. Better solution, fire problems in IT, hire new IT. But hey I'm probably preaching to the choir.

What a load of crap. In instance number 1. support is not doing their job... in instance number 2. your suggesting that a support bitch, or even their manager has control over the hiring process? Give me a break. Nothing worse than support people that have some complex about how much better they are than users. Support people are the bottom feeders of IT. The guys that aren't good enough to contibute in any meaningful way... their jobs is free up the the real IT talent to do their job. What if the forgetful user just happens to be a core part of the sales team? Or a director? Half the time people can't get work done because 1st and 2nd level support don't know what they are doing.

The point I was making is that the timing of this is suspicious. It only was announced after Telstra decided it didn't want to be part of the NBN. If Telstra was split before the NBN fallout then I would say fair play. But when it is announced as a result of political games and affects mum and dad investors then I take issue. I don't have Telstra shares, nor am I against a breakup but it should be because it needs to be done... not because Kevin is trying to force Telstras hand because they snobbed his NBN plan. If they played 'yes man' to Kevin and helped the NBN be implemented I doubt Kevin would floating the idea.
