Single Window GUI (SDI) is terrible in photoshop.

Have you ever heard about window managers? What manages windows (not Microsoft Windows) for you?

Have you ever heard that you can attach multiple displays to your computer and that your working speed improves with it?
I can not find the slashdot article about multi-screen efficiency but http://www.multiplemonitors.org/index.php/multiple-monitor-solution/multi-advantages says it is 20-50% overall improvement and that is what I remember from slashdot discussion of different study as well.

At that point, you want just to have MDI = every image as own window and tools in own window. Then you can use window manager to actually manage your windows so you quickly find what you need and you can see all of them at glance, get them in full screen and tools pop-up only when needed by pressing a TAB. You can organize images to second screen or make a duplicates of images and place them to side by side to compare when you want to have a new try of something fancy without undoing everything if it isn't successful.

Since GIMP 2.3 development branch the UI has been very powerful and logical. Much better than in Adobe Photoshop what is illogical but works for those who have born with knowledge to use it. That is one reason why Adobe went and made a Adobe Lightroom for photographers because Adobe Photoshop was designed to totally different work than for photographers. And even Adobe has said that Photoshop UI is terrible and needs tweaking as now it is "one for all" what does not fit at all for everyone, but they need "one for one, everyone gets own". And now they are coming there with customization possibilities per user needs.

So go and get yourself a good window manager (like KWin) so you can get functions like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktTNcj0fAM4 and virtual desktops and so on.

Is internet so big after all?
Same question can be asked from physical location in countries.

When someone says "USA" (or any other country) to foreign person, what will rise to their minds?
A geographical location in world, capital city, famous cities, media (movie, music, other industry etc) information, politics, famous people and possible family ties etc.

But how many starts thinking first all the small places? Like small towns, single unknown people, poor people, people living typical spaces, small bars and restaurants, shops around corner etc etc?

How may internet sites does avarage user use these days in daily habit?
I would argue that amount is very limited. Instead surfing (as it was called at 90's) from sites links pages to another and using Altavista and Yahoo! "yellow pages", people open browser (for even today the IE or Firefox is "the internet") and go to facebook, open news page, google something etc.

The internet is actually VERY small for most of the people. It is about information bubble what search engines and social networks builds. Custom search results per user/country etc. Social habits of own friends and so on. They all are so strong forces that can not be dismissed.

How did E-mail chain letters and Spam start? For what reason? People just sit on their computer sharing links to something funny or nice to each other, by social pressure.

Today Facebook is a social pressure. If you don't exist there, you don't exist so much anymore for "civilized people". Corporations, Schools, forums etc demands more and more Facebook account and in worse case, that you give your boss or hiring person a access to your Facebook account and you can not say "I don't have such" so easily. Because "everyone has one".

It does not matter what a avarage Slashdot nerd knows about technology or history or what is "out there" in Internet (Internet is more than just WWW, but normal people WWW is the Internet) as world is full of avarage users who do not want to know about it. They just want to live with their families and friends and just "get it done". No matter of philosophies, no matter of better technologies, no matter of better future for everyone by protecting freedom (like GPL license for software) as they want everything NOW. So they are ready to pay from it or vote a person who just lies to their faces saying "This is now the thing you want" in TV.

People have been trained to blindly repeat propaganda of greedy people and that is the "Competition". That competition is great and best of all. That is the corner stone of western society. That is just world greatest lie what is told to kids in schools and TV, brainwashed even more in later of their ages so they just start repeating it like zombies.

Non-competitive situation does not mean in economy that there is monopoly or that government is controlling. Non-competitive situation is where people have alternatives and multiple choices but everyone is working together.
In non-competitive economy there is no place for greedy people or a sociopaths who want to control everyone else and they start fighting for power of them in political manner.

Competition is synonym for war. And only one who always suffers are civilians, aka customers. Everything else is just propaganda. There is no real winner ever. Even the winning corporation lose more than gain and people lose most.

It is as well very stupid to say "You can go else where to post what you want". Because it is exactly same thing as saying "Shut the fuck up and go away, we don't want to hear you".

I could have just to say you with valid argument that you should never have posted that but write that to text file in your computer and just save it for your family to read it.

These days people need to have a facebook account if they want to get easy on commenting in different big sites. Many does not anymore care about doing separate login proceedings per site, forum, blog, service etc. They don't care to have different login names, different passwords, different reminders for answers. Typical WWW user is lazy person who runs what ever the social network forces them to think, to like or to say.
It is one of the bad side effects of competition ("If you are not with us, you are against us" aka "If you don't like it, you can always go somewhere else").

And the "Governments to control access" does not mean bad as governments are usually protecting people access to something else, like to water, electricity, communication etc. What is bad thing is "Government limiting access to Internet". And it would be that citizens are denied to have rights to have connection.
But same time it is ultimate evil to have unlimited access as corporations starts pushing bad news (they sell better than good news) and media control is ruling citizens ideas and toughs, the ultimate social network. When people in power do not want to people to discuss or know about something, it can be impossible by limiting access as even laws can protect it. But what law does not protect against, is media control. And when you don't want to people know something or discuss, is that you distract them. You draw peoples minds and interest to something else. It is like ultimate magic show. Audience does not know what the other hand or assistant is doing as their focus is exactly where magician wants.
Bad news, soap opera, movies, rumors etc are used to draw citizens attention away from things what matters.

In USA is world strongest media control, people toughs and opinions are controlled and depressed even more than in China where government says exactly "You can not access here". It is better to live in world where you know how short is your leech than in world where you live life what is brainwashed to your mind from birth and made you like a zombie to protect powerful peoples interests.

Google services are used trough Google applications, they are called as "gapps".

Gapps do not belong to Android, as they are third party applications what only Google offers trough Play and operators and Phone OEM preinstall them because people wants Google services (search, maps, navigation, cloud sync to contacts, email etc) and because Google pays to them from every search what is made trough Google Search widget (that search bar on launcher desktop).

I have used many Android phones what does not have gapps installed. But the phone feels just half smart then.

Apple knew that to get successful phone, you need to have services ready for its users. Not way round like Microsoft usually does that product is "ready" but services lacks few years behind.

It is sad that most people only see world trough commercial companies making money. And do not trust what a community can do together when willing just to work together and share the knowledge what they together gain and gather.

Just look those videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G__WvTWeAGw and think how much you can do with a cheap RC planes (I call it cheap when it is not over 10 000 euros).

A normal glider with wingspan about a meter can do a over 115km flight alone. Of course it is totally random flight but capable flight very long distances. Then add such plane a two servos, GPS and battery and expand the wing span littlebit to carry extra weight and you have it.

BUT, if you want a true autopilot system, what meas it should have lasers range finders or at least a optical detection system like fighter jets have, you are not talking about small hand held devices anymore but full blown UAV's.

But with GPS and heightmap it could be possible to do a somekind, with safety height of 100-200 meters.

No, it isn't cheap (50-100 euros) but it isn't expensive (10 000+ euros).

But I would ask, who would like to do that as autonomyous because it is fun to flight those things? :D

Comment Re:Looking expensive (Score 1) 274

Does not..... As you do not need lots of electricity at all to fly over 100km ranges.

Example of JÄMI model what is just about 50 euros have done records (what I know) of 115km range and it has just 107cm wing span.

There are lots bigger ones like OH 2000 what has 178cm wing span and is capable to carry few hundred grams easily.
So you can actually get a GPS, 3G, few cameras, auto control module, batteries and servos to that weight. And if neede, you can adjust the model to have even wider wing span if needed.

The mountains have great wings, what can be exactly benefit as those fly using warmer winds. The problem is just that if you want direct control for that 20km range, it will add a one second lag if wanted to use 2G/3G data connection (if available). Adding a electronic motor to that would give benefit in starting and some possible sudden problems where you need to make corrections without wind, but more weight and so on.

The bonus using just wind is weight and low size demand for battery.

Today a cheap 70 euros Android smartphone has almost everything what is needed, a camera, data connections, CPU, RAM, open source Linux operating system etc. So rip off all non-needed plastic, remove battery and join it to bigger battery. Add servos trough USB port and it is manageable. After all, only 2-3 servos are needed, depending what wings you want to control.

This video was linked in Youtube about year ago. it is about RC flight near New York.
