Nothing bad about it, it's just that sometimes it causes a few problems.

I do tech support at a school. The moment that something goes offline (like our mail server), we start getting calls telling us that things are messed up.

Before anyone asks: Yes, we try our best to only reboot after-hours, and yes, we tell everyone when a service will be down.

Porn Surfing Rampant At US Science Foundation 504

schwit1 writes "The Washington Times reports, 'The problems at the National Science Foundation (NSF) were so pervasive they swamped the agency's inspector general and forced the internal watchdog to cut back on its primary mission of investigating grant fraud and recovering misspent tax dollars.' One senior executive at the National Science Foundation spent at least 331 days looking at pornography on his government computer, records show. The cost to taxpayers: up to $58,000. Why aren't they running a product like Websense?"
Education

The Mindset of the Incoming College Freshmen 383

Beloit College has come out with its annual Mindset List of what the incoming class (of 2013) has always known and has never known. "For these students, ... the Green Giant has always been Shrek, not the big guy picking vegetables. They have never used a card catalog to find a book. ... Tattoos have always been very chic and highly visible. ... Rap music has always been mainstream. ... Except for the present incumbent, the President has never inhaled. ... Amateur radio operators have never needed to know Morse code."

They have a policy that says that if you're a new customer, you get a discount...

They also have a policy that allows you to upgrade your phone at a discounted price after a certain amount of time.

If I'm not mistaken, they've done this for a while, now... and so does Verizon. How does the iPhone have anything to do over this? Sounds to me like someone is just mad that they'll have to wait for their upgrade.

Not saying that longtime customers shouldn't get a discount or anything... just that this shouldn't surprise anyone.

Any Gamestop I've ever been to almost FORCES the used copy down your throat. I went in to buy a copy of a game for my father's birthday, and the tool at the register kept asking me to buy a used copy instead.

Even after explaining to him that I thought it was stupid to buy a used game for a gift, he still kept trying to sale me the used copy. I ended up leaving, because it seemed as if he was not going to sale me the new copy (that I had in my hands), and I wasn't going to cause a scene in front of a bunch of children.

I've spoken to friends that live in other places, and they have had similiar experiences.

Mozilla Jetpack, an API For Standards-Based Add-Ons 42

revealingheart writes "Mozilla Labs have released a prototype extension called Jetpack: An API for allowing you to write Firefox add-ons using existing web technologies to enhance the browser (e.g. HTML, CSS and Javascript), with the goal of allowing anyone who can build a Web site to participate in making the Web a better place to work, communicate and play. Example add-ons are included on the Jetpack website. While currently only a prototype, this could lead to a simpler and easier to develop add-on system, which all browsers could potentially implement."
