Submission + - Traveling Salesman in Polynomial Time? (blogspot.com) 2

James writes: Kingrames, a regular Slashdotter, has recently posted his second of two solutions to the Traveling Salesman problem, both of which are done in Polynomial time. He's asking for fellow mathematicians and computer scientists to lend a hand in proving and disproving his theories, and welcomes all feedback. If this discovery turns out to be true, it calls into question the idea that there are no polynomial-time solutions to these "hard" problems, and that would be very significant. If you have the time, and the inclination, please consider lending your helping hand.

I don't think it was about "safe".
It's a sad but safe bet that the airlines weren't worried about people dying, but rather worried about them suddenly becoming litigious hypochondriacs.
Very likely that at least one person would claim that the volcanic ash gave them a horrible disease or whatever, and then, well...
Let's just say it's a good thing those planes stayed on the ground.

Totally going to have to have one of these with a field of stars moving in one direction, like the windows on a starship in Trek. I wonder how many of these you could have synched up. You could turn your house into a starship.

Not to argue his point for him, (since I do not believe the command line has anything to do with it) but... There are plenty of people who wouldn't churn their own butter, even if it was easier, cheaper, and/or faster than buying it store-bought. I think your analogy is flawed; people really do expect alternate forms of controlling their o/s, be it mouse, voice, touchpad, or ddr dance pad. It's unwise to ignore those market forces.
