The whole climate Warming or Change issue reminds me of the old story of four blind men meeting an elephant for the first time. One feels its truck and says "An elephant is a snake", another man feels the leg and say "An elephant is like a tree trunk". The third feels an ear and exclaims "An elephant is like a leaf and the fourth, having not moved in time says, just before getting crushed by its feet, an Elephant is like a huge rock". What they perceive is just a part of the whole and when put completely together becomes something quite different.

I will accept that mankind has effected the overall climate of the planet. I say this not as a Scientist, but as a reasonably intelligent human that understands when you shit in your own house, something stinks. How bad it sticks is not the issue. The issue is why keep shitting in the house if there are better alternatives like using an outhouse or bathroom. The Earth is very big, very complex and we have only scratched the surface of what we understand about how it works. We are the four blind men and I think it may take time to get the complete picture of what is in the room.

In the mean time, is it so bad to think we could just stop shitting in our own home, do something about the stink and maybe make living here a more pleasant experience? I would think Capitalistics could figure out all sorts of ways to make money cleaning up our shit instead of just making more air spray to cover up the smell.

I'll mod myself off topic, but thank you for posting this summary and comment. I've looked into series and will plan to buy them. I also agree that time travel can be a good tool to help in moving a plot along or setting a good story. Science Fiction is not always about the science, but how science effects the characters. According to the Parent, we should not have FTL, beam weapons, aliens, or the rest of the milieu that makes up the world of SciFi. Me, I can take a reasonable suspension of belief (Helix, by Eric Brown comes to mind) if a good tale is told.

We, as in citizens of the US, glorify idiots and ridicule shows that might make us think (either through humor or drama). We enjoy the dumb, because it makes us feel superior. The interesting part of the slim article was the part left out. Why did not not perform as well on some of the games. There was not much detail on that issue. I'm not familiar with the poorly played game, but I would guess they introduce a level of visual complexity that overwhelms the AI?

In the greater context I think the post is trying to make the same thought, AI's that use visuals to make decisions may not be trusted with human life.

Basicaly, the reporter would have to define "sex" before the question was asked and we then know the reswponse would be, I find your question disgusting and not worthy of a response". Thus changing the direction.

Rare are the politicians like Mr. John Ford who pauses, only to ensure his truthful answer is accurate...."Yes".

What I'd wish is that reporters would not let go a question till an answer was given....

"Congressman Moneybags, did you divert funds from the children's hospital and towards a defense contractor instead?"

"Hospitals serve an important part of our community. So does defense and we need to understand that we need the defense for the children. Can you imagine a world where children are threatened by terrorists. Wait what? The reporter ignores this obvious obfuscation and falls into the trap..."So MB, you feel we need to spend more on defense" This is what I see time and time again with today's so called reporters.

Google is in R&D to make Robo-Cop II? maybe Glass is the first step in taking over our brains. Sure, at the moment they just sit on our head, but by 2015 we'll need a neural tap to get a true network experience. Once in place Google can then download their override malware (which comes with its own ads), take over the brain and integrate it into the automated car.

You mirror my thoughts. At times I also most wish that republicans would take and hold all three branches. It will hasten the fall of this country and perhaps, maybe, possibly out of the upheaval, a better system can come to pass. Right now I feel democrats (or maybe better to say caring politicians) try to slow the fall, give hope to the hopeless and serve only to make this country suffer more. Gangrene slowly pervades our system, our society and the caring politician, a minority today, only allows the infection to spread, albeit slowly.

We live in a time of a heartless society.

I love the ACs below that slings arrows from hidden view. girlintraining makes a value point and I'd mod her up. If you are going to protest, TIme and place do matter. Also you audience matters and picking on a bus load of techies expends too much cap;ital on a little target. Had they protested in front of google, had the, as she suggested, parked themselves in front of the people who are really driving up prices then they could garner more positive interest in their cause. All they did was pissed of people who work for a living, negate any value attempted by using violence, and most likely hurting, not helping their cause.

To the ACs, get some brains cells to stop the knee jerk reaction, or come out of the woods so we can put a name to the small minds that carry it.
