Submission + - "Did God create man or did man create God?"

surinp3 writes: "Once, when I was in a debate over religion, the question "Did God create man or did man create God?" was raised.

The same person then asked, "Wasn't man the one who needed a God?" He held the view that one would only create that which he needed; According to him, God had no real need for humans, and the Bible itself has example after example that shows man as a failed creation. He said that if an all-powerful God had created man, he would have been so disappointed that he would have permanently removed him from the earth. He would have made another man, one that was perfect. Man, being imperfect, was the one who needed a Supreme Being to look out for him. Therefore, he manufactured God within his own mind, in the image of what he considered an almighty being.

I must admit that I was puzzled by his comments then, and I have yet to find answers to his questions. On another occasion, I was challenged by the question of where Cain got his wife. Considering that the Bible describes Adam and Eve as the sole man and only woman, who bore Cain's wife? Did she come from outside the garden? Wasn't the garden the only place where a man and woman existed?

Who has answers to these questions? I'm certain that there are many out there who love to take on such topics just for the sake of argument. Let me know what you think. Shed some light on this issue."

Submission + - Asked to install Pirated Software, what do you do?

An anonymous reader writes: I am an IT professional, and due to budget constraints, I have been told to install multiple copies of MS Office, despite offering to install OpenOffice, and other OpenSource Office products. Even though most of the uses are for people using Excel like a database, or formatting of text in cells, other programs are not tolerated. I have been over ruled by our controller, to my disagreement. Other than drafting a letter to the owners of the company on how I disagree with the policy, what else can I do? I would never turn them in, but I am in tough place by knowing doing something illegal. I want to keep my job, but disagree with some of the decision making on this issue.

Submission + - You don't have to be smart to be rich

coondoggie writes: "It doesn't take a rocket scientist to make a lot of money, according to a nationwide study that found people of below average intelligence were, overall, just about as wealthy as those in similar circumstances but with higher scores on an IQ test. Furthermore, a number of extremely intelligent people stated they had gotten themselves into financial difficulty. The one financial indicator in which the study found it paid to be smart was income. Those with higher IQ scores tended to get paid more than others. "People don't become rich just because they are smart," said Jay Zagorsky, author of the study and a research scientist at Ohio State University 's Center for Human Resource Research in a statement. "Your IQ has really no relationship to your wealth. And being very smart does not protect you from getting into financial difficulty." http://www.networkworld.com/community/?q=node/1451 0"

Submission + - Sourceforge Changes Hands

eldavojohn writes: "Our beloved Sourceforge has been traded to CollabNet from VA Software (whose Open Source Technology Group (OSTG) operates Slashdot) for an equity stake in Collabnet. Since college, I've used Sourceforge hundreds if not thousands of times to access open source projects or even retrieve precompiled binaries. Either way, it's made my life easier and I hope it remains a free valuable resource."
