Yes NP++ is pretty good, but Programmer's Notepad is better.

PN has 'clips' - code fragments you can add in, and add your own code bits.
And far better 'Tools' additions.

And its all configured/extended using XML.

BTW Both NP++ and PN are quite portable.
PN runs straight from a USB stick, and PortableNotepad++ is avialable from PortableApps.com.
