Comment Very Sad (Score 1) 246

Symbian was ALLWAYS a bad platform, which got little traction outside Nokia, and some of the technical decisions eg "Symbian Signed" were brain dead marketing ideas that made the platform even more hostile. Ie if Nokia didn't do it you could not have it, even on your own phone, period.

So Symbian spoilt Nokia's high end while the margins on the low end, simple phone eg N3110, 5 days battery life were eroded to nothing. Nothing Nokia has done, at the high end has worked and they have destroyed all confidence that they know how to build a smart-phone. I predict WP7 will be a disaster and will do neither Nokia or M$ any good.

Nokia had the money to make QT+mego a success, but none of the drive, immagination or technical management to realize sucess.

When the M$ adventure is seen to flop they will be done. Very Sad.

That is part of the story, but it isn't all, to have multi-device-homed code you need to get all the BIG/LITTLE 16/32/64 ILP bugs out of your code, and that takes a long time, but both WNT and Linux are very modular with respect to architecture and tool chain, so that is not a lot of work.

SMP, Power Management, Work Queues and managing applications so the dont/cant kill the battery is hard, isolating the network and telephony is also easy.

As usual M$ will not be held back by basics but by sloth, lack of insight and perenially bad management.

In a phone, primarily I want a phone, with good 4+ days battery life, my N 3100 does that,

is reasonably safe.

I need to re-boot, ie power off, my N95 once a week because Symbian goes dollaly.

Whe Bosch, who make the BMW and Mercedes engine/gearbox controllers, they started
the same crap, UNTIL Bosch reverted. I do not need a car that gets BSOD.

A NewZeeland friend with a new 535i that did this had a relay system fitted that took Vcc off the
ECR/TCS and put a 10 ohm 50 watt resistor across the Vcc input pins to discharge the
internal capacitors. Pushing the button once a week made his car work, not leave him by
the roadside once ever 3 months.

I say again M$ quality!
