You don't need datapoints when you have a study in TFA and the study says you're wrong. Now now, there's nothing bad about having a wrong opinion about yourself, I'd think most people think they drive better than average, are more intelligent than average, are morally superior to the average. It's simple selection bias.

GPL Case Against Danish Satellite Provider 297

Rohde writes "The number of satellite and cable boxes on the Danish market using Linux has significantly increased during the last couple of years. The providers Viasat, Yousee and Stofa all provide HD receivers based on Linux, and all of them fail to provide the source code or make customers aware of the fact that the units are based on GPL licensed software. I decided it was time to fix this situation and luckily the Danish legal company BvHD has decided to take the case. We are starting with Viasat, which distributes a Samsung box including middleware and security from NDS, and you can follow the case here."

Guess what, the vast majority of attacks exploit old, publicly disclosed vulnerabilities. Keeping your software up-to-date protects against those better than relying on A/V, because your A/V might not detect a new variant of an old exploit.

When it comes to 0-day exploits, they have been tested and confirmed to work against A/V, so you're just as vulnerable, even more so, if your A/V itself has vulnerabilities.

You may have a bit too rosey a recollection of it. Some choice quotes from Wikipedia:

"Classic was a hardware and software abstraction layer"

"Classic's compatibility is very good, provided the application using it does not require direct access to hardware or engage in full-screen drawing."

"The greater processing power of most systems that run Mac OS X helps to mitigate the performance degradation of Classic's emulation."
