Given that Woz's programming style at the time was to write down the machine instructions in hexadecimal on a sheet of paper and then key them in every time he wanted to run the program, I can see how he might have allowed a small inefficiency to slip in. Early C compilers were very simple and to the extent possible, compiled each statement of a C program to one or two machine instructions. There was no optimization to complicate things. It was all done top-to-bottom in a straight line in a totally predictable way.

I suppose then the fact that you have nothing to hide would be something to hide.
