I am responding to RMS's last post which is pretty much content free, but does contain another personal attack against me.

Calling you a Microsoft-apologist is not a "personal attack", it's a fact.

Tell me this: Why should we, the Linux-community, trust Microsoft? Seriously? Why should we do ANYTHING to promote their technology at all?

It's 100% obvious that Microsoft would LOVE to see Linux and free software to crash and burn. They are using just about every trick in the playbook to harm Linux. Their business-practices are appalling and their list of casualties is huge.

Do we have ANY reason to trust them? No. None at all. So why exactly are you such a MS-fanboy? Anything MS announces, you embrace. C#, Moonlight... Why don't you simply start officially working for Microsoft, and stop this "I want to support Linux!"-bullshit? You can't serve two masters.

I can tell you firsthand it's of nice quality, and honestly it's one of the best looking laptops I've ever seen in their "black chainlink" color.

I have seen people tell how some piece of PC-hardware is high quality", but when I actually test it, all I find is dull, creaky plastic with mediocre design and bulging dimensions. I use Thinkpad T61 every single day, which is widely recognized as the #1 in quality when PC-laptops are concerned. And sure enough, it's a lot better than most PC-laptops. But it's still not as good as my MBP.

Every single time I see someone make those stupid comparisons about how hou can get a "better machine" while paying less if you get a PC as opposed to Mac. But when I compare those "superior" machines to Macs in real life, it becomes quite obvious that not only are they cheap, they also look and feel cheap. You obviously get what you pay for. Anyone who thinks that there are free lunches, are deluding themselves. PC-hardware might be cheaper, but there's a reason why they are cheaper.

If you look at raw specs, a Chevrolet with similar "specs" as an Audi has would cost less. But anyone with a functional brain would notice the obvious differences between the two after two minutes of hands-on testing.

MagSafe: won't argue its nice to have, but not a necessity. 2 cases out of 40 as you yourself said.

2 cases where the laptop broke down and had to be replaced. With Magsafe, there would have been zero such cases. And replacing those computers cost quite a bit of money in lost productivity.

I take that as an admission of defeat. When you are presented with facts, you just take your ball and go home.

Go right ahead and make that claim.

Few people really want 13" laptops.

Other specs were more or less similar (battery on the Dell is 85Whr vs. 73Whr on the MBP, however).

So I got a laptop that is made from plastic, no magsafe, no backlit-keyboard, crappy GPU, is heavier (the model with smaller battery is already heavier than the MBP (2.515kg vs. 2.49kg), is bigger in every way (thicker, wider, taller)... And still no OS X.

So it costs 750 bucks less. But it's quite apparent that you also get a crappier machine. It's in no shape of form comparable to the MBP. Color me unimpressed.

You can buy your music through iTunes, and you can then use those purchased songs in some other mediamanager. You are in no shape or form forced to use iTunes.

Of course the actual purchase is done in iTunes. But by same logic I could complain that I have to go to amazon.com, if I want to buy from their online-sotre.... If you don't want to use iTunes, feel free to use some other online-store then. There's plenty to choose from.

How is Apple "abusing" their market-position?

Allowing you to purchase in the store, but preventing you from syncing the music or playing it on your choice of devices is an attempt to use their dominant market position in one industry to achieve dominance in another industry.

You can sync your iTunes-library to other devices if you want to. You can also buy your music from some other store, and play it back on an iPod (or whatever you want to use). Again: stop being a retard. You are in no shape or form tied to iTunes.

All there is is Apple treating some of their customers like second rate citizens.

All there is the fact that Palm is either too lazy or too incompetent (or both) to write their own sync-software that syncs the users iTunes-library to their device. That is what everyone else does, but apparently that is too much to ask from Palm.

Or they will have to document, license and publish the protocol to purchase from the iTunes store.

What does purchasing music have to do with this? Why couldn't the user buy their music from some other store instead? What matters here is whether it's possible to sync the users library to third-party device. Yes, it is possible.

Its just a matter of time.

You can not hold 70% share and still claim you are exempt from regulation because you have not yet achieved perfect monopoly.

I honestly see no monopoly here. The barrier of entry is low, there are plenty of alternatives (both hardware and software).... Where is the monopoly? How is Apple abusing their supposed "monopoly"?

What is "iStore"? And to put things in to perspective: Microsoft has over 90% market-share. iPods have about 75% market-share. ITunes Music Store is the biggest single music retailer, but it's not dominant. If we look at downloads only, I believe that it's market-share is about 80%. But there's no real barrier of entry here. Doesn't music downloaded from Amazon automatically go to users iTunes-library? And you could take your music from iTunes and move it to some other library or device if you wanted to.

Compared to operating-systems, there is real competition in the player-market and online music-stores. Yes, Apple is the biggest in both of them, but they do not have a lock-in that stops users from using some other device or service instead.
